BMR (basal metabolic rate)

BMR estimates how many calories the body burns at rest to keep basic functions running.

Also known as: Basal metabolic rate

BMR represents resting energy, not the final daily expenditure. To estimate daily calories, it is normally multiplied by an activity factor to reach TDEE.

Formulas like Mifflin-St Jeor give a starting point, but real expenditure varies with body composition, routine, sleep and individual response over the weeks.
