Myofibrillar vs. sarcoplasmic hypertrophy
Myofibrillar hypertrophy refers to growth of the contractile structures; sarcoplasmic, to growth of non-contractile components inside the fiber.
Also known as: Myofibrillar and sarcoplasmic growth
The distinction is useful for studying muscle adaptations, but in day-to-day training the two dimensions do not appear as separate switches. Load, volume, proximity to failure and recovery influence growth in an integrated way.
That is why the practical application is less about choosing a type of hypertrophy and more about building consistent weeks. SelfShapeAI tracks concrete indicators — load, reps, volume and per-exercise progress — which are more useful for adjusting the plan.
