Periodization is organizing training into phases over time to manage volume, intensity and recovery.

Instead of always training the same way, periodization varies stimuli in blocks to sustain progress and reduce stagnation and accumulated fatigue.
In practice, it shows up as planned changes in volume, intensity or focus between training phases.
