Progressive overload is gradually increasing training demand so the body keeps adapting.

Also known as: Overload principle

It is not just about adding weight: you can also progress in repetitions, sets, range of motion, control or shorter rest.

Without consistent progression over time, the stimulus settles and progress stalls.
