Effective reps

Effective reps are the repetitions performed close to failure, when the fibers are already under high effort.

Also known as: Stimulating reps

The idea helps explain why very easy sets tend to stimulate less: the last reps of a hard set concentrate more effort and recruitment. Still, it is not an exact ruler and does not replace volume, technique and recovery.

Using RIR or RPE makes the concept practical, because it shows how close to failure the set ended. In SelfShapeAI, logging load, reps and perceived effort turns proximity to failure into trackable data instead of guesswork.
